Hyllningar till Peter Osgood (uppdaterad II)
Hyllningar och kondoleanser till hastigt bortgångne Peter Osgood har strömmat in. Supportrar, spelare och ledare delar sorgen efter den legendariske fotbollsprofilen.

Före kvällens vänskapslandskamp mellan England och Uruguay hölls också en tyst minut för både Peter Osgood och förre förbundskaptenen, och tillika Chelseaspelaren, Ron Greenwood.

Chelsea Football Club’s affection and esteem for the man the fans titled the King of Stamford Bridge could not be higher. Today is a very sad day indeed.

People will always say the best player at Chelsea has been Gianfranco Zola but I would say Peter was the greatest. He was such strong player, a big fellow who scored goals and scared defenders.

We all have, and will hold precious, wonderful warm memories of Peter, his wizardry and his love of life. Not long after winning the Cup with Saints, the players went as guests to visit a local casino. Afterwards some of the players arrived at a local mobile burger bar. Of course, they were mobbed by the fans. Ossie asked the fans if they had seen the cup up close. None of them had. He produced this piece of precious silver from the boot of a car, commanded the stall owner to fill it with tea, and then proceeded to share it with the fans!
Ah Peter! they're in for some japes up there now. Give our love to Besty. We'll miss you. Respect.

Not only was he a fantastic footballer but he was a fantastic man as well. He was always about the club and I know the fans adored him. Anything that was written about the current team, he was always backing us. We got on great. It is a terrible loss.

He had just about everything, he was only 18 or 19 when he came onto the scene but he had magnificent balance and was a very brave as player. He was my toughest opponent in every shape and form. He and I fought like cats and dogs on the pitch but we ended up being best of friends. I'm very shocked and saddened by the news.

Bad, bad day. like most of the older supporters on here, ossie was my ossie, he summed up what we were about in the late 60's/early 70's. he liked a drink, he was a showman, he epitomised the glamour of the area, the era, the club, london, england, everything. it wouldnt have worked if he played for anyone else. I remember standing half way down, shed end, cant remember exact date, against everton. he scored a goal at the shed end, went down on his hands and knees on the goal line, and looked at me - yes, just me,no-one else was there in my mind, arms raised, as if to say "that one was for you chrissy boy". what a man, what a player, what a hero. RIP Ossie, i love you mate, my hero, always have been, always will be.

How many times have I read "He was such a good guy etc" after someone famous dies, Peter this is from the heart, I meet you on maybe 10 occasions and you had a heart of gold, the last time I sat and spoke to you was in the Princess Sofia hotel in Barcelona were we had a few light ales and a chat, Peter I will treasure that memory for the rest of my life, RIP Peter and have a pint with Bestie."

It certainly is a very sad day for everyone connected with Chelsea FC. My heart goes out to Peter's family and everyone connected with Peter. I worked with him on matchdays for the past three to four years. He was a wonderful man, a very funny man. He was a great footballer. He was one of the Chelsea greats of all time. Many people would say he's their greatest ever player. I remember the Cup final and replay against Leeds when I was just a kid watching it. He was one of the great players in both of those games. He was one of the greatest players to grace Stamford Bridge and wear the blue of Chelsea. He was called King of Stamford Bridge and king he was.

Ossie - This was a man. When a man like Ossie dies; a man who defines your generation as a Chelsea fan; after that, there are very few things you can say. Every part of supporting Chelsea, from start to finish was encompassed by Peter; From 'Liquidator' to 'Blue is the Colour' - beautifully illustrated by the pass from Wright-Philips to Joe Cole tonight. I am stunned. I saw Peter about a month ago because he was back at Chelsea doing PR work. He epitomised the entertainment factor of football and that Chelsea side of the 1970s. That’s why he will still be loved by the fans long after his passing, which is very, very sad news.
Southampton Football Club:
Southampton are today mourning the sudden death of their former striker Peter Osgood. A hugely gifted and often maverick player, he was the darling of fans both at Stamford Bridge and The Dell. He was a true crowd-pleaser, displaying great control and finishing power as well as silky skill – and his arrival galvanised the city, adding thousands to the gate.

Whilst I'm a lifelong Spurs fan, that of course doesn't stop me having a lump in my throat at the poignant, sad and premature death of a talented English player; a passionate football advocate, and a thoroughly nice guy. I'll always have memories of his goals, and the team of which he was a part, primarily Chelsea but also latterly Southampton. He settled in Hamsphire a few miles away from us, and our local new programs tonight showed what a popular and genuine character he was in the villages and locals there, and how he was still furthering football and charity events. I have only been at Chelsea a short time but of course I know Peter Osgood was a legend at Stamford Bridge. I met him maybe 20 times, either before or after matches in the tunnel, or at the training ground where he was always welcome and was always very nice. He was one of the greats of Chelsea and will be missed.

What a terribly sad day for all Chelsea supporters and football fans as a whole.
My dad took me to Chelsea as a young lad, and Ozzie, you were my favourite. When we sold you to Southampton, a part of Chelse died. I remember the crowd in the matches thereafter singing "Bring back, Bring back, Oh bring back our Ozzie to us, to us." Those wors seem so apt today. You would have walked in to any premiership football team in this and any generation. You were pure class. We have lost a Chelsea Legend. You were the true King of Stamford Bridge and will never be forgotten. Please Chelsea FC. Can we rename the West Stand "The Osgood Stand"? Rest in peace.

As an Everton fan I still count it as a privilidge to have watched one of the true greats of this game. OS stood out even in the presence of other greats. I talked to Eddie McCreadie today, and, he is obviously devastated by the news. OS you were a credit to your club, country and fellow man. You will be missed.

I can't believe it. This is desperately sad news. He was a great character and a fantastic player. He was out on his own for a few years. Probably the only one who could touch him was George Best - he was that good.

I never saw Peter play and because matches were rarely recorded on film, have not seen much of him in action. His playing record and the tributes from former team mates speak from themselves. Personally, the abiding memory of Peter is his smile - seemingly permanent and certainly infectious. To me, he embodies all that is good about our great game.

Deeply saddened by this news. Ossie was the main man when I started supporting Chelsea in the late 60s, and remains 'the King of Stamford Bridge' to this day. A true great who was devoted to the club.
I remember when he returned from playing in the US in 1978 and he was asked what his plans were. I've never forgotten his reply:
"I'll get down on my hands and knees to go back to Chelsea". He always regretted leaving and knew where he belonged. It meant a lot to me to read that as a Chelsea-obsessed teenager - he loved Chelsea with a passion that never left him, and with which all Chelsea fans can identify.
Ossie's the only Chelsea player I've ever met, when I bumped into him at Heathrow three years ago. He was pleased to be recognised and wrote a message for my two young Chelsea-mad boys (then aged ten and five) which they still cherish to this day. They are very sad about his passing too, and will always revere his memory.
I saw the interview with him at the Centenary celebrations on Chelsea TV tonight. When he was asked what it meant to him to be named in the all-time greatest Chelsea XI he was close to tears talking about it. That's what a humble, sincere and genuine man he was.
He is a massive loss to the club and its fans, and I hope he will be honoured with a fitting and lasting tribute. R.I.P. Reunited with your old mate Hutch (and Houseman).

“You don’t get called the King of Stamford Bridge for nothing. He was a tall guy who could head goals but he had so much grace, skill and ability. He was as important to Chelsea as George Best was to Man United. He turned it on in the big occasions. People like him with exceptional talent, they do that. That is why they are so special.
